Today was all about opening myself to new experiences. My first ever @classpass session, my first ever reformer Pilates attempt, and my first ever chance to work out with a Thames view — just look at that sparkling water! ✨

There are endless opportunities to find new in spaces you think are old to you. This is your reminder to have a mooch, dig around, and even just go for a walk down that road you never take. You might find something really delightful that brightens your day 🌞

Today we laid my dear uncle – my mother’s brother – to his final resting place. He is the last of their generation to pass on from this world and as such a family chapter has closed, and a baton is passed. It is a fine day to reflect on some of the magical, tiny details from a blessed Christmas that was such an immense privilege to share with our family 🩶 My heart is full of slices of joy, rays of light, subtle candle glimmers, and a million other soft small sweetnesses ✨ We have to notice the tiny good things, my friends. They make an ordinary life extraordinary.

“For in the dew of the little things, the heart finds its morning and is refreshed” — my favourite poet Khalil Gibran does it again and this quote comes to mind as I sit down to reflect on something magical that happened today.

As those who are without parents at Christmas time will know, it can be hard to find the sparkle of this gleaming season for the weariness of their absence lies like a veil over the heart. No matter how thankful I am for my life’s bountiful gifts, I simply do miss my mum and dad something rotten when it’s time for tinsel and trifle.

I had shared my quiet apprehension of the upcoming season of greetings some time ago with my friend Kristine who clearly quietly internalised my truth. For today she surprised me with a hand-made, entirely custom built-just-for-me advent basket ⚡️ — to help spark my Christmas joy ✨

As I get older, I recognise ever more how much effort and kindness it takes to show up for friends. @kristine_grun — I’m blown away by your noticing me. By your effort. And by your kindness. I’m so lucky to do life with you. Thank you 🩶

I have so much to be thankful for as we usher in the season of reflection, giving, and love but today I’m especially grateful for the joy of movement that figure skating has given me for over 30 years.

I’ve skated on every seasonal London ice rink bar one over the past 13 years and can safely say this rink at the Queen’s House in Greenwich takes the biscuit!
